Net Zero Homes: How Local Architect Samuel Gordon’s Innovative Designs Are Revolutionizing Sustainable Living

2 min read

The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is hosting the final installment of this season’s Science Saturdays on May 11 at 11 a.m. Architect Samuel Gordon will be giving a talk titled “When Science Hits Home” where he will share the secrets of his net zero architectural designs in local residences.

Gordon has a long history with LBI, having visited as a toddler and attended classes at the Foundation from a young age. After receiving a degree in architecture from Temple University, he moved to the Island full-time to complete an apprenticeship. In 1992, he founded Samuel Gordon Architects and has since focused primarily on designing private homes, many of which are located on LBI.

In 2008, Gordon attended a conference at the Google headquarters in California, where he learned to design energy-efficient homes. His own home in High Bar Harbor served as a laboratory for environmentally-conscious elements. Since then, his firm has continued to design and expand on creating net zero homes.

The discussion at the LBIF will cover topics such as solar panels and geothermal wells, with a focus on how these elements can make a home more comfortable and bring operating costs to zero. Registration is available online at lbifoundation.org/science or through LBIF emails. All Science Saturday presentations this season are free.
