Nestlé Health Science has reached a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Seres Therapeutics to acquire certain assets associated with Vowst, an FDA-approved orally administered microbiota-based therapeutic designed to prevent recurrence of Clostridioides difficile infection in adults following antibacterial treatment for recurrent CDI. This transaction will replace any previous agreements between Nestlé and Seres related to Vowst.
Nestlé Health Science has been leading the commercialization efforts for Vowst since its launch in June 2023 in the United States. The acquisition will grant Nestlé Health Science full control over the future development, commercialization, and manufacturing of Vowst both in the U.S. and globally.
Moreno Perugini, President of medical nutrition and pharma at Nestlé Health Science, expressed his satisfaction with the success of Vowst since its introduction to patients in June 2023. He highlighted the productive collaboration with Seres during the development and FDA approval of Vowst, emphasizing the importance of continuing to provide this medication to patients.
Vowst aligns with Nestlé Health Science’s expertise in gastrointestinal disorders and their commitment to meeting significant unmet needs in the market. The finalization of the transaction is pending negotiations of definitive agreements, Seres shareholder approval, and fulfillment of other customary conditions. Once completed, Nestlé Health Science will have complete ownership over the development, commercialization, and manufacturing of Vowst, ensuring continued growth of sales and benefit for many more patients from this innovative medication.
