Michael Foods Inc. Recalls Over 4,600 Pounds of Liquid Egg Products Due to Misbranding and Hidden Allergens

Michael Foods Inc., a Minnesota-based company, has recalled over 4,600 pounds of liquid egg products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall includes 32-oz paperboard cartons of “Fair Meadow Foundations Whole Eggs with Citric Acid” with a use-by date of “16 SEP 24” and lot code 4162G. These products were packaged within corrugated cases labeled Scrambled Egg Blend with the same use-by date and lot code.

In addition to these products, those with establishment number EST. G1455 are also subject to the recall. These products were distributed to restaurant consignees for institutional use in Alabama, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, and Utah. The issue was discovered during a routine carton inventory evaluation conducted by the establishment.

The USDA stated that the establishment notified FSIS upon discovering that a limited amount of Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons was unaccounted for while there was an excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg cartons in inventory. It was later determined that the unaccounted Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons were mistakenly used during a single short Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg production run. The Breakfast Blend formulation contains an allergen – a dairy ingredient (milk) – which is not declared on the Whole Egg with Citric Acid label.

Despite the misbranding and undeclared allergens
