The Dallas Mavericks announced on Tuesday that they have extended the contract of general manager Nico Harrison for a multi-year term, just two days before the team returns to the NBA Finals for the first time in a decade. Owner Patrick Dumont praised Harrison’s leadership and vision, crediting him with the team’s recent success in making two playoff appearances in three seasons.
Harrison, who joined the Mavericks in June 2021 after nearly two decades at Nike, expressed gratitude to Mark Cuban for taking a chance on him and to Dumont and Adelson family for their support. Despite facing challenges such as negotiations for Luka Doncic’s contract extension, Harrison was able to secure Doncic with a record-setting deal, positioning the team as contenders for years to come. Under Harrison’s leadership, the Mavericks have amassed a 140-106 record.
The extension for Harrison comes on the heels of a similar move for head coach Jason Kidd, who also signed a multi-year extension after leading the team to victory over Los Angeles Clippers in the playoffs. As the Mavericks prepare to face Boston Celtics in Game 1 of NBA Finals, they are looking forward to building on the foundation of success established under Harrison’s leadership.
