The start of the 2024 regular season is fast approaching, with just 78 days until the Arizona Cardinals kick off their season on September 8 against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. The anticipation is building as fans eagerly await to see which players will make a big impact for their favorite team.
One player who has been waiting for his chance to make a difference is guard Marquis Hayes. Drafted in the seventh round in 2022, Hayes has yet to play in an NFL game. Despite spending his rookie year on injured reserve and the following season on the practice squad, Hayes has not had the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field. However, with the upcoming season just around the corner, he may finally get his chance to prove himself and make a name for himself in the league.
Before Hayes donned the No. 78 jersey, it was worn by offensive lineman Earl Watford from 2013 to 2016. Watford was known as a versatile player who could step in when needed and earned praise from head coach Bruce Arians during his time with the Cardinals. He started 21 games for the team and went on to play two more seasons in the NFL before retiring.
Watford was a reliable player who was appreciated by both coaches and fans alike, and he remains an important part of Cardinals history.
