The Ottawa Senators have set their sights on Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins as they search for an upgrade in goaltending, according to a report by the Ottawa Citizen’s Bruce Garrioch. Despite facing stiff competition, Ottawa remains a serious contender for the talented goalie.
Last season, the Senators finished ranked 31st in the league with a .884 save percentage and 28th in goals against. This poor performance in goalkeeping severely impacted their chances of making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. As a result, they ended the season with only 78 points, placing seventh in the Atlantic Division.
With recent goalie trades involving Jacob Markstrom and Darcy Kuemper, Ullmark stands out as a valuable asset that could significantly improve Ottawa’s goaltending situation. Trading Ullmark could also benefit the Bruins, freeing up significant salary cap space and allowing promising young goalie Jeremy Swayman to take on the No. 1 role in Boston. Swayman showed impressive skills during the Bruins’ 2024 playoff run, reinforcing his potential as a top goaltender for the team.
Ullmark has one more year remaining on his contract with a $5 million cap hit and the possibility of becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2025. His contract includes a no-trade clause that allows him to veto a move to 15 teams, as disclosed by CapFriendly.
