Archie Gray has signed a long-term deal with Tottenham Hotspur, but had earlier agreed to join Leeds United for around £30m. In exchange, Leeds sent defender Joe Rodon to Spurs in a deal worth about £10m. The sale of Gray is expected to help Leeds comply with profit and sustainability rules following their loss in the Championship play-off final. This defeat led to the need to sell players in order to meet financial regulations.
Gray had initially been going through a medical examination at Brentford but the bid was rejected due to payment structure disagreements. Now, 18-year-old Gray, who played several matches in various positions for Leeds last season, is the great-nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray. Despite reluctance, Leeds reluctantly agreed to his transfer to Spurs in order to enhance their chances of promotion next season within the league’s financial regulations. Meanwhile, Wales international Joe Rodon has signed a four-year deal with Leeds after being on loan with the club last season.
