Klay Thompson Leaves Golden State Warriors for New Challenge with Dallas Mavericks

Klay Thompson has made the decision to leave the Golden State Warriors, signing a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. After much contemplation and consideration of other options with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers, Thompson decided that the Mavericks were the best fit for him.

According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Thompson’s decision to leave became easier when he realized that the Warriors did not prioritize him in free agency. The team was focused on making big moves to improve their chances of contending while also cutting costs. Despite the possibility of a competitive offer eventually being made by the Warriors, Thompson chose to move forward and sign with the Mavericks.

Thompson will now join forces with Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving in Dallas, becoming a part of a new challenge in the Western Conference. His departure marks the end of his time with the Warriors, who were his only NBA organization since he entered the league in 2011.
