The Science Olympiad National Tournament took place at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, with 120 junior high and high school teams from across the country competing. Representing Katy ISD, Beckendorff Junior High and Seven Lakes High School placed third in the middle school division and 12th in the high school division, respectively.
The Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization that aims to increase K-12 student and teacher participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The competitive tournaments cover a wide range of topics including life sciences, computer science, anatomy and health, astronomy, and other science fields.
Beckendorff Junior High has consistently ranked within the top 10 in national competitions over the past 12 years. Similarly, Seven Lakes High School has also been successful with top finishes in previous years. BDJH excelled in various categories such as Disease Detective, Dynamic Planet, Forestry, Fossils, and more. SLHS stood out in areas like Agricultural Science, Microbe Mission, Solar Power, and Wind Power.
Both schools demonstrated their knowledge and skills in a variety of scientific disciplines at the tournament. Their dedication to STEM education was evident as they showcased their excellence in the field of science.
