In the 2024 plan year, a record number of Kansans selected or were automatically re-enrolled in a health insurance plan through the federally facilitated marketplace. During the open enrollment period that lasted from November 1, 2023, to January 16, 2024, a total of 171,376 Kansans enrolled in a health insurance plan. This is an increase of 37.7% from the previous year’s enrollment (124,473), which itself was an increase of 15.5% from the year before that (107,784). Additionally, 13,433 Kansans selected a standalone dental insurance plan for the upcoming year.
On March 22, 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released summary enrollment data for the eleventh open enrollment period of the federally facilitated health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Kansas Health Institute has prepared statewide maps showing 2024 marketplace enrollment in Kansas. These maps include information on the count of unique consumers who selected or were automatically re-enrolled into a 2024 marketplace health plan (regardless of whether the consumer paid the premium). In addition to these statewide maps, maps of 2024 Kansas marketplace enrollment by ZIP Code for health insurance are available for the five most-populous counties in Kansas.
