Japanese Climber Found Dead on Golden Peak; Rescue Efforts Continue for Missing Colleague”.

Officials have confirmed that one of the missing Japanese climbers has passed away while attempting to scale Spantik Peak, also known as Golden Peak, in northern Pakistan. Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the other missing colleague. The climbers had gone missing on Wednesday while climbing the mountain.

Karrar Haidri, the secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, stated that after a dayslong search operation, rescuers were able to recover the body of one of the missing Japanese climbers. The Golden Peak is a popular destination among climbers due to its distinctive golden hue at sunrise and sunset. Haidri mentioned that the body has been moved to a safer location and Pakistani authorities are coordinating with the Japanese Embassy in Islamabad to confirm the climber’s identity.

The Japan Alpine Federation had earlier reported that Ryuseki Hiraoka and Atsushi Taguchi were attempting to reach the summit of Spantik Peak, which stands at 7,027 meters tall. Climbers face significant risks in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, with several fatalities occurring each year. Notably, K2, one of the world’s highest mountains, is located in Pakistan’s north.
