Israeli Army Successfully Intercepts Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Using Advanced Defense System in the Red Sea

On Tuesday, the Israeli Army used its naval anti-missile defense system for the first time to intercept an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from the Red Sea heading towards the port city of Eilat. A Saar 6 type corvette successfully carried out the interception using the ‘Naval Dome’ system, according to a statement published on social network X.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have deployed ships to the Red Sea as Yemen’s Houthi rebels increase missile launches against commercial ships in retaliation for the situation in Gaza Strip. Additionally, pro-Iranian militia Islamic Resistance in Iraq has also attacked various targets in Israel, including an oil port in Ashkelon, as reported by Al Mayadeen chain.

Recent years have seen ongoing tensions and security concerns in the region that necessitate advanced defense systems and military capabilities by Israeli Army. In response to these threats, the Israeli Navy acquired up to four Saar 6 type corvettes from ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The last of these ships arrived in Haifa in 2021.
