In February 2023, Serbian citizen David Knežević disappeared in the Madrid neighborhood of Salamanca. His ex-wife Ana Knežević went missing, and he was later arrested on suspicion of being connected to her disappearance in May. The police are investigating his activities before and after his return from Madrid, with surveillance footage from highways and locations in Belgrade being reviewed.
The collaboration between Spanish and Serbian authorities is ongoing as they work to reconstruct Knežević’s movements during that time period. The General Commissariat of the Judicial Police from Spain has also come to Serbia to investigate his activities.
In Belgrade, authorities have searched premises linked to Knežević, questioned individuals associated with him, and gathered information about his movements and communications. The Chief Public Prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade confirmed cooperation with the National Police of Spain and the FBI regarding the case.
Knežević was taken into custody in Miami, Florida, suspected of kidnapping his wife on May 4. He remains in custody without bail due to concerns about his potential to flee. Ana Knežević is a Colombian-born US citizen who lived in the USA since 2008 and recently moved to Madrid after separating from David. They were in the process of divorcing and shared significant assets, which David allegedly attempted to sell.
