Melissa Frost, a science teacher at Buchanan High School, was recognized as the Michigan Department of Education’s “Region 7 Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025.” This honor is part of the Teacher of the Year program, which celebrates exceptional educators who demonstrate dedication to their profession and contribute significantly to education.
Frost was recognized for her commitment to her students and innovative teaching approaches. In addition to this recognition, she also had the opportunity to present at the American Geophysical Union Conference in San Francisco, California. At the conference, she shared insights from her participation in the Research Experience for Teachers Program at the Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological Research Program at Michigan State University. Frost’s contributions to scientific research have enriched her teaching practice and provided valuable learning experiences for her students.
Frost is also actively involved in several other initiatives that promote outdoor education and provide opportunities for elementary students. She is a member of Buchanan High School’s Habitat Restoration project and the Buchanan Community Schools Farm Committee. As Regional Teacher of the Year, Frost will serve on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council, where she will advocate for teacher voices and work towards improving Michigan’s public education system.
