Innovative Floating Wind Solution Wins Major US Department of Energy Award

2 min read

Technip Energies’ innovative floating solution, INO15TM, has won the United States Department of Energy’s Phase Two FLoating Offshore Wind ReadINess (FLOWIN) prize. The award recognizes the three-column semi-submersible concept that can support a 15 MW wind turbine and can be scaled up to accommodate even larger wind turbines. This achievement marks the next step in the development of floating offshore wind technology, which aims to make it cost-effective to manufacture and deploy gigawatt-scale floating wind farms in US waters.

In recognition of their achievement, Technip Energies will receive a cash prize of $450,000 along with $100,000 worth of technical support from the Department of Energy National Laboratories. This win qualifies the company for the final Phase Three of the award, which will be announced in June 2025 and offers the opportunity to win an additional $900,000 prize.

This new accolade builds on Technip Energies’ success in Phase One of the prize, where they were among the nine $100,000 winners announced in March 2023. They collaborated with partners such as Crowley Wind Services, Anchor QEA, and Offshore Construction Associates to develop their innovative solution.

The FLOWIN initiative aims to promote the development and commercialization of floating offshore wind technology. It seeks to facilitate cost-effective manufacturing and deployment of gigawatt-scale floating wind farms in US waters. With this new award, Technip Energies continues to lead innovation in this exciting field.
