India’s T20 World Cup squad, led by Virat Kohli, may face some changes as the team prepares for their tournament. Kohli, who has been a crucial member of the Indian team in the past, is taking a short break from the game after the IPL. Along with him, Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya will also join the team later than originally planned. The first group of Indian players left on Saturday, with a second group scheduled to leave on Monday.
Kohli, currently holding the Orange Cap with 741 runs in the IPL, played in all 15 Royal Challengers Bangalore games, including the Eliminator which they lost to Rajasthan Royals. Samson has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he is delaying his departure due to personal matters in Dubai. The BCCI has approved his request along with those of Kohli and Pandya.
According to a BCCI official speaking to The Indian Express, Kohli had informed them in advance about his delayed arrival so that they could adjust his visa appointment accordingly. India’s captain Rohit Sharma and other players and support staff have already left Mumbai on Saturday night.
India is set to start their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5th followed by a match against Pakistan on June 9th and games against Canada and Australia. The team is gearing up for a challenging tournament ahead as they prepare to defend their title won in 2018.
