On Monday afternoon, the Franklin Science Center was evacuated due to reports of a burning smell within the building. At 3:24 p.m on April 22, an email from SU News announced that emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department, SUPD, and university facilities had responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m. Authorities deemed the building safe to reopen by 3:15 p.m and continued to investigate the cause of the odor.
As soon as the building was reopened, the SU facilities team immediately focused their inspection efforts in room 108 of the Franklin Science Center, which was suspected to be the source of the smell. However, this is still a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
