Humanoid Robots in Action: Sanctuary AI’s Phoenix Heads to Europe for Assembly Line Duties

The field of technological careers is constantly evolving, and humanoid robots are no exception. Manufacturers such as Tesla, Xiaomi, Boston Dynamics, and Figure 01 have made significant advancements in this area. However, Sanctuary AI is looking to make a name for itself in Europe by announcing that its humanoid robot Phoenix will soon be working in a car factory to assist with assembly work.

According to a report from the El Español-Omicrono website, Phoenix will undergo field tests at Magna, an Austrian company known for assembling brands like BMW and Jaguar. The number of robots to be deployed and the specific factory where they will operate have not been disclosed yet. This puts Sanctuary AI in competition with Figure 01, which is also set to begin operating in BMW manufacturing plants in the Spartansburg area of the United States.

Phoenix stands at 170 centimeters tall, weighs 70 kilos, can walk at 4.8 km/h, and has a maximum load capacity of 25 kilos. It is equipped with an artificial intelligence control system called Carbon, enabling the robot to identify movement patterns and perform relevant actions by mimicking subsystems of the human brain such as memory, vision, hearing, and touch. Additionally, a human operator can utilize a virtual reality helmet and motion capture equipment to remotely control the robot using its cameras and sensors.

Humanoid robots are becoming more common on streets worldwide. They offer several benefits such as savings capacity, noise reduction, and environmentally friendly design. With advancements being made in this field every day
