Hometown Hero Donovan Clingan Makes Big Leap in NBA Draft Decision after Standout NCAA Tournament Performance.

UConn sophomore center Donovan Clingan has declared for the 2024 NBA draft after a standout performance in the NCAA tournament. Despite battling injuries throughout the season, Clingan was able to showcase his skills during the tournament run. He demonstrated his versatility as a big man with the ability to run the floor and play strong defense both inside and outside the paint. With his 7-7 wingspan, he proved to be an elite rim protector with an impressive eight blocks in a single game.

Throughout the 2023-24 season, Clingan averaged 13 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, showing improvement as he regained full health. His performance in the tournament was particularly impressive, with standout games against Northwestern and Illinois, where he recorded double-doubles with multiple blocks.

Clingan’s impact on both ends of the court was evident in UConn’s tournament victories, with his ability to disrupt opponents’ scoring opportunities and contribute offensively. Despite facing challenges against Purdue’s Zach Edey in the championship game, Clingan’s presence on the floor was crucial to UConn’s success.

As a Connecticut native and former four-star recruit, Clingan made an immediate impact for UConn as a freshman. His decision to enter the NBA draft comes after a successful collegiate career where he established himself as a top prospect for the next level.
