Guilford College is set to host its third annual Dialogues, which will focus on economic inclusion from June 6-7. Researchers, practitioners, policy makers and local residents are expected to engage in conversations that explore strategies to promote economic inclusion and create an environment where everyone can learn from one another.
While national unemployment rates are low and the economy appears strong, not everyone is benefiting equally. An inclusive economy ensures that everyone has access to opportunities that enable them to earn a living wage, start and grow businesses, save for their families, plan for retirement and chart their own course in life. President Kyle Farmbry emphasizes that an inclusive economy is not just about creating jobs; it’s about providing equal opportunities for all individuals to build, maintain and pass on wealth.
Guilford College serves as an ideal platform for these important discussions. President Farmbry believes that the college is a place where ideas can be cultivated, action can be taken and meaningful change can be brought about in Greensboro and beyond. Speakers at the Guilford Dialogues will highlight the value of entrepreneurship in the Triad region and explore various factors that contribute to economic inclusion such as workforce development, aging, affordable housing and the role of educational institutions in bridging economic gaps.
The keynote speaker at this year’s Guilford Dialogues is Harvard University economist Raj Chetty, an expert on equality of opportunity in the United States. Chetty’s presentation open to the public on June 6 at 7 pm on campus will provide insights into economic inclusion. Attendance at the Dialogues is limited to 150-200 participants to encourage dynamic discussions rather than lectures, interested individuals can register online until June 5.
