After a morning rain delay, No. 7 Georgia swept Alabama State 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The victory was Georgia’s seventh sweep in their last eight matches, and it showcased their dominant form. In doubles play, Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco won their ninth consecutive match as a pair. Dasha Vidmanova and Aysegul Mert followed suit with a 6-0 victory, securing the point for Georgia.
The Bulldogs then carried the momentum into singles play, winning the first set on all six courts. Guillermina Grant quickly increased Georgia’s lead to 2-0 with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory. No. 65 Reasco and No. 70 Lopata then won their matches to seal the victory for Georgia. Despite the challenge ahead, head coach Drake Bernstein expressed confidence in his team’s preparation for the upcoming match against Florida State in the second round of the tournament.
