Fugitive Teacher on Trial in Thailand for Child Sexual Abuse in Germany

1 min read

A 55-year-old former headmaster from Saxony, who was convicted of serious child sexual abuse in Germany, has been arrested in Cambodia over a year after he escaped. He was sentenced to three years and one month in prison at the end of 2022 for assaulting a then 13-year-old student in the school library in May 2021.

The man had previously faced similar accusations by schoolgirls in 2016 and 2018, but those cases were dropped due to a lack of evidence. However, the most recent case led to his conviction. After the verdict, he fled abroad and was eventually arrested in Cambodia after investigations revealed information about his flight bookings and the fact that he had opened a guesthouse there.

Due to difficulties extraditing him from Cambodia to Germany, another solution had to be found. When his visa expired on March 6th, he was apprehended by local police and later transferred to Bangkok, Thailand, where officers from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Görlitz Police Department took custody of him. He is currently awaiting trial in Thailand.
