In November 2021, the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg concluded its investigation into the murder of singer Igor Talkov, as reported by Meduza citing the press service of the Investigative Committee. The former concert director of Talkov, Valery Shlyafman, was charged in absentia with murder and attempted murder in a generally dangerous manner.

Shlyafman, who left for Israel in 1992 and changed his last name, was previously accused of negligent homicide. The investigation revealed that on October 1991, during a conflict backstage at the St. Petersburg Yubileiny Sports Palace between Shlyafman and singer Aziza’s representative Igor Malakhov, Talkov’s concert director fatally wounded the singer while trying to shoot Malakhov with a revolver. After a criminal investigation resumed in 2021, the Investigative Committee determined that Shlyafman was involved in intentional crimes.

Talkov, born in Tula region in 1956, rose to fame after performing at the Song of the Year festival in 1987. The murder case of Talkov was originally suspended in 1993 and reopened in November 2018.
