In New Jersey, law enforcement and mental health professionals are collaborating to increase funding for the ARRIVE Together Program in the 2025 budget. Governor Murphy made the announcement, explaining that this program pairs police officers with mental health professionals to better address mental health needs in the community.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s is rebranding its Happy Meal as “The Meal” for Mental Health Awareness Week in the United Kingdom. The fast-food chain has removed the smile from the box to encourage conversations about children’s emotions. In a commercial shared on their UK YouTube page, children express their feelings and share how emotions can be complicated.
The commercial emphasizes that it is okay to feel a range of emotions and that it’s important not to feel happy all the time. Instead of the traditional yellow smile, the box now contains stickers of different types of mouths to reflect various emotions. Mental Health Awareness Week, recognized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, runs through Sunday, with the entire month of May dedicated to mental health awareness.
Various organizations, including Mental Health America, offer resources and ways to learn, act, and advocate for mental health this month. Additionally, national hotlines are available online for individuals experiencing a crisis. New Jersey is ranked as one of the top states for happiness and mental health, according to Soliant Health, a health care staffing agency.
