From Local to Global: Amazon Prime Video’s Maxton Hall Breaks Records as Most-Watched International Show

2 min read

Amazon Prime Video’s German series Maxton Hall – The World Between Us has been renewed for a second season following its success as the streamer’s most-watched international show in its first week. The YA series, produced by UFA Fiction, achieved an unprecedented level of global viewership for an International Original in Prime Video history. It topped the Prime Video Charts in over 120 countries and territories and ranks in the top three in more than 50 countries, including the U.S., UK, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Canada, and South Africa.

Based on Mona Kasten’s book Save You and starring Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten, Maxton Hall follows Ruby, a student who witnesses a secret at her British boarding school. This leads her to form a complicated relationship with James Beaufort, an arrogant millionaire heir from the school. As the two try to be together, they risk everything, and James tries to buy Ruby’s silence.

James Farrell, VP of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the show for proving that local stories can captivate global audiences. He cited the success of other international shows like France’s Medellín and Spain’s Culpa Mía and Reina Roja. UFA producer Ceylan Yildirim expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic reactions to the show, which started as a local production for the German market but gained global popularity through Prime Video’s support.
