From Halal Pizza to Peace: The Journey of Nizam Suliman, Owner of Fire and Dough

2 min read

In the heart of North Olmsted, there is a growing Arab community with over a dozen businesses that are owned by members of the community. One such business is Fire and Dough, a halal pizzeria that is owned and operated by Nizam Suliman. As both the owner and chef, Suliman takes pride in serving fresh meat that is prepared daily using his own recipes and spices.

Suliman’s journey to open his own business began when he was just 13 years old, learning to cook in the Middle East. He eventually made his way to Cleveland in 2013 and was able to realize his dream of starting his own business on October 10, 2023. However, just months after opening, the Israel-Hamas war erupted, casting a shadow over his grand opening plans.

Despite the challenges posed by the war, Suliman remains grateful for the support of the North Olmsted community. The war has had a direct impact on Suliman’s business, with many Palestinians in the area mourning loved ones and feeling uneasy about gathering in public places. However, Suliman remains hopeful that peace will prevail not only in his home country but also throughout the world.

He encourages those around him to remain positive and believes that better days are ahead for all of us. With each slice of pizza he serves at Fire and Dough, Suliman hopes to spread hope and positivity throughout his community and beyond.
