Franciscan Health is investing $185.5 million in expanding its hospital in Munster, Indiana. The project includes the construction of a five-story addition to the hospital and renovations to portions of the existing facility. The expansion will enhance the capabilities of the hospital’s existing facilities by providing interventional, inpatient, and specialty care space.
The campus site will be reconfigured to include additional parking and relocate the existing loading dock. Along with expanding the hospital building, the project will add three stories to an existing three-story medical office building on the hospital’s campus. Plans also include a new facilities plant, parking lot, and relocated helipad.
The goal of this expansion is to turn the hospital into a regional medical center for north Lake County. This project follows the closure of Franciscan Health Hammond Hospital in late 2022. It is unclear how many new jobs will be created with this expansion, and a timeline for completion is not yet known at this time.
