The Chicago Bears have officially signed wide receiver and special teams ace DeAndre Carter to a one-year deal, the team announced on Tuesday. Carter, 30, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2015 and has since played for several teams, including the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, Washington Football Team, Los Angeles Chargers and most recently the Las Vegas Raiders.
With his experience as a kick and punt returner, Carter brings versatility to the Bears’ roster as a receiver. He will be competing for one of the final receiver roster spots with Velus Jones Jr., Dante Pettis and Nsimba Webster who also have return experience. Special teams performance will play a key role in determining who makes the cut.
Carter’s special teams contributions make him a strong contender for a roster spot with his experience as a kick and punt returner. With the new kickoff rules in place this season, he can be a valuable weapon for Chicago. The battle for receiver roster spots is sure to be exciting during training camp.
