Ferrari Partners with SK On to Revolutionize Battery Technology for Its First Fully Electric Vehicle

2 min read

Ferrari S.p.A., the renowned Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, has recently partnered with SK On Co., a leading electric vehicle battery producer in the world, to collaborate on cell technology. This partnership aims to enhance battery cell technology innovation as Ferrari gears up to launch its first fully electric vehicle next year.

SK On, based in South Korea, is currently the exclusive battery supplier for Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The company has been providing cells for Ferrari models such as the SF90 Stradale, SF90 Spider, 296 GTB, and 296 GTS since 2019. Even limited-edition models like the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider from last year are equipped with batteries supplied by SK On. This new collaboration solidifies SK On’s position as Ferrari’s main battery supplier for electric vehicles.

Ferrari plans to introduce its first electric vehicle in the final quarter of 2025 and aims to transition about 60% of its lineup to be split between fully electric and hybrid cars by 2026. To support this transition, a new plant in Maranello, Italy will open in June to produce electric motors, battery packs, and power inverters. This strategic partnership with SK On is a significant step towards achieving this goal of increasing electrification within the brand’s lineup while maintaining its commitment to innovation and performance excellence.
