Hippie Grippie Fireworks, located on Redbank Road near Goose Creek High School for nearly 50 years, is one such stand that has been serving customers for multiple seasons. Grippie Lawson III stated that their business is family-run, with several family members operating different stands.

Every year during the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve holidays, Grippie Lawson III emphasizes the importance of safety when using fireworks. They advise against holding any fireworks in your hands except for sparklers. The family stresses that safety should be a top priority and urges customers to exercise caution and use common sense when setting off fireworks to avoid accidents. In addition, they offer a no-dud guarantee and suggest pouring water on malfunctioning fireworks instead of risking injury.

Chief Bob Maibach of the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department has seen the consequences of unsafe firework practices firsthand. He advises against storing fireworks in pockets or allowing young children access to them as it can result in injuries such as burns. He reminds individuals to exercise caution when handling fireworks and to prioritize safety above all else.
