In a major announcement, the Erie County Health Department has received $4,334,730 in funding for the Erie County Community Health Center. This center is the only comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the tri-county area that serves Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties.
Federally Qualified Health Centers play a vital role in public health infrastructure by providing primary care, dental, and mental health services to underserved communities. The grant was awarded by the Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA) and will be used to continue offering these services through the Health Center’s eight locations across the region.
Erie County Health Commissioner Pete Schade expressed his gratitude for the grant, highlighting the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that all residents in Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties receive high-quality healthcare. He emphasized that this funding will help make a difference in people’s lives and improve their overall health outcomes.
The grant from HRSA is part of a national Service Area Competition, with only 160 programs being selected for support. The grant period for the Erie County Community Health Center will run from June 2024 to May 2027. The HRSA administers its Health Center Program which supports nonprofit organizations that provide primary health care services to medically underserved populations.
