Lompoc held an annual health expo, attracting approximately 500 seniors aged 50 and older to the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center. Various vendors, including health care providers, government agencies, local businesses, and senior-related organizations, participated in the event.
The expo provided valuable information about community resources to hundreds of seniors. It aimed to educate seniors about available services and resources in the Santa Barbara County area, many of which they may not have been aware of prior to attending. Attendees had the opportunity to receive health checks, such as blood work and blood pressure measurements, courtesy of Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
Organized by Lompoc Recreation Supervisor Sue Slavens, the expo also highlighted programs offered by the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Division. These included exercise classes for seniors, many of which attendees were surprised to learn about. The event was a collaborative effort between the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Division and the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation. Overall, it succeeded in informing and empowering seniors to take advantage of the resources available to them for better health and well-being.
