Embraer Hires First Marshall University Aviation Maintenance Technology Graduates

Embraer, an aerospace corporation based in Huntington, W.Va., has signed employment agreements with the first round of graduating students from Marshall University and Mountwest Community and Technical College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program. The program, launched in 2022 at Tri-State Airport near Huntington, offers students a unique learning experience that covers a wide range of skills such as engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.

James Smith, director of the program, emphasized the hands-on approach that equips students with industry-level skills. One student, Devin LeMaster, shared his excitement about starting his position as a line maintenance technician at Embraer in Nashville, one of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers. He will be responsible for heavy checks, inspections, and more.

The graduating students will be working at various facilities in Florida and Tennessee, showcasing the success of the Aviation Maintenance Technology program in preparing them for promising careers in the aerospace industry. Monica Newman McCluney, head of U.S. corporate social responsibility and the Embraer foundation, expressed her pride in seeing the growth and success of these students over the past 18 months.
