Egypt Expands Wheat Cultivation and Increases Food Security through Agricultural Initiatives

1 min read

Egypt has announced plans to increase the cultivation of wheat in the coming years, with a goal of 3.5 million acres in the fiscal year 2024-2025, up from 3.2 million acres in the current fiscal year. The expansion is part of efforts to increase storage capacities of wheat silos to reach 5.2 million tons, up from 3.9 million tons in the year 2022-2023.

In addition to wheat, Egypt also aims to increase the cultivation of strategic crops such as corn and fava beans. The country plans to cultivate 2.8 million acres of corn and 220 thousand acres of fava beans, which have high productivity levels and can help reduce the food gap and decrease the need for agricultural imports.

The government also plans to add approximately 750,000 agricultural acres during the year 2024-2025, bringing the total agricultural areas to around 10.7 million acres. These initiatives are part of Egypt’s strategy to enhance food security and strengthen the agricultural sector in the country.
