In a recent poll by ABC News/Ipsos, Americans’ trust in former President Trump and current President Biden on the economy and inflation is being closely watched. The poll revealed that these two issues are among the top concerns for American voters heading into the upcoming presidential election.
While both leaders have their own strengths and weaknesses, a large percentage of respondents (88%) stated that the economy was a critical factor in deciding who to vote for, with 46% trusting Trump and 32% trusting Biden. Similarly, 44% of respondents trusted Trump to handle inflation, while only 30% said they trusted Biden on this issue.
Despite some progress in reducing inflation rates under President Biden’s leadership, more Americans reported feeling financially worse off since he took office. Specifically, 43% reported a decline in their financial situation, while 40% said they were about the same, and 16% felt they were better off.
However, even though the race between Biden and Trump remains close among all adults surveyed (Biden had 46% support compared to Trump’s 45%, respectively), when it comes to registered voters specifically, Biden had a slight edge over Trump with 46% support versus his opponent’s 45%. In terms of likely voters, however, Biden extended his lead with an impressive 49% support versus Trump’s 45%.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online among a representative sample of 2,260 adults from April 25-30 and has a margin of sampling error of just two percentage points. As such, these results should be taken into account when assessing the current state of public opinion ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
