In Eagle Rock, a series of burglaries has left business owners demanding action from local law enforcement. In the past month, more than half a dozen businesses have been targeted, including two restaurants and a coffee shop that were hit early Sunday morning. Security footage shows a man smashing through each door just after 4 a.m. on Sunday.
The latest incident has left business owners worried about their financial stability. Dominica Abat, owner of Loop Espresso Club, arrived to find the coffee shop’s door shattered just weeks after opening. No cash was stolen in this instance, but he is concerned about future incidents costing him more money. Alan Moore, owner of Cheebo restaurant, described how a suspect threw a brick through their front door, leading to costly repairs. Chateau Lemongrass was another victim of the recent burglaries, marking the second time in a month that the business had been targeted. Employees reported that the thieves stole their safe during the first incident.
In response to the increasing number of burglaries in Eagle Rock, the Los Angeles Police Department has increased patrols in the area. LA City Councilman Kevin de León also allocated $100,000 in January for extra police work in the district to combat burglaries in Eagle Rock community. As tensions continue to rise among business owners and local law enforcement officials work to address this issue head-on, it remains to be seen what impact these measures will have on reducing crime rates in Eagle Rock.
