A little over seven years ago, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and his wife, Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger, made a game-changing discovery in the world of skincare. The couple, who also have a strong background in science, with Ann Marie holding a degree in biology and teaching physics and chemistry, and Mike being a Harvard graduate who has lectured at Stanford, stumbled upon a naturally occurring molecule on the skin that piqued their interest.
Intrigued by Ann Marie’s own struggles with hyperpigmentation and patches of lighter skin, the couple set out to find a powerful antioxidant ingredient that could help combat these issues. They discovered malassezin, an ingredient that is 10 times more potent than Vitamin C. This ingredient became the cornerstone of their brand, Mother Science, which has quickly set itself apart from other skincare products on the market.
Mother Science was launched just over a year ago with their flagship product, the Molecular Hero Serum. Since then, the brand has expanded its product line to include the Retinol Synergist. Ann Marie and Mike recently visited Billboard News to discuss their groundbreaking discovery and how it is transforming the skincare industry through their innovative products.
Throughout the development of their products and brand, Mike would often wake Ann Marie up in the middle of the night with new ideas or discoveries. Their shared curiosity and drive for innovation have always been at the forefront of their work together – whether in science or music (Mike as Incubus frontman and Ann Marie as a violinist collaborating with Hans Zimmer).
