Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa Misses Team’s Offseason Program for Golf Tournament but Maintains Hard Work Habits; Sheds Pounds for Agility

1 min read

The Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Tuesday that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had been absent from the team’s voluntary offseason program. This was to participate in Nick Saban’s golf tournament, but McDaniel did not reveal whether Tagovailoa’s absence was contract-related. “I don’t make a habit of speaking for other people’s mouths,” McDaniel said. “I’ll let you ask Tua.”

Despite not being at the team facility, Tagovailoa has been working hard on his fitness during the offseason. He has lost “10 to 15 pounds” and is now weighing around 220 pounds, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media. This is significantly lighter than his listed weight of 227 after weighing in at 217 at the 2020 Scouting Combine. In an effort to be more agile and add escapability, Tagovailoa has also taken up jiu-jitsu training after suffering multiple concussions in the previous season.

In 2023, Tagovailoa started every game for the first time and led the league with 4,624 passing yards while also throwing for career-highs in touchdowns (29) and interceptions (14).
