District Eat and Play, a new entertainment lounge and restaurant, is set to open on July 15 in the former AME Golf & Brew Lounge location at Overland Park’s Oak Park Mall. The space will feature mini golf, arcade games, laser tag, pool tables, and large screens for watching Kansas City sports games. Adam Ilbak, owner of District Eat and Play, believes that these entertainment lounges are a great way to bring people back to malls since so much shopping is done online.
Ilbak and his brother run two other full-scale locations in Orlando and Salina, as well as a gaming center called District Jungle near the food court of Independence Center. They plan to expand further in the Midwest with additional locations in Kansas and St. Louis. The Overland Park location will cater to a wide range of ages from 7 to 70 just like their other locations.
Sean Phillips, a spokesman for the mall, also announced that Street Dept., a streetwear company will be moving into the former AME Sports memorabilia store. Street Dept is set to open next week. It’s not clear what led to the closure of AME Golf & Brew Lounge after less than a year in operation but it seems that District Eat and Play will bring new life to the space.
