A holidaymaker on the German Wadden island of Borkum stumbled upon a significant drug discovery when they found suspicious packages on the beach, containing 1,000 kilos of cocaine. The tourist discovered the bags in April, tied with a life jacket, and immediately alerted the police. This incident is not the first time that drugs have washed up on the beaches of the German North Sea coast. In 2021, workers found 25 kilos of cocaine on a dike in Aurich and a similar amount washed up on the Wadden island of Baltrum. The presence of drugs on these shores highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region.
Despite illegal activities taking place on these shores, there are still plenty of other activities to enjoy in the area. From exploring beautiful natural landscapes to trying your luck at a casino, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or a thrill-seeker, the German North Sea coast has something to offer for every type of traveler. Despite this incident, it’s important to remember that there are many other great things to experience along this coastline beyond drug trafficking activities.
