At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, a groundbreaking innovation is set to revolutionize the way we travel – the Augmented Reality Interactive Vehicle Display. Developed by Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), this vehicle window provides additional information about what a passenger is currently viewing. This futuristic technology could transform tourism, as self-guided tours become the norm through interactive displays.
Each window features a transparent microLED touchscreen panel and a camera above it that tracks a passenger’s gaze. The system uses GPS positioning data to identify nearby landmarks and displays relevant information in real-time. With a click of the photo displayed on the touchscreen, passengers can access text boxes containing additional details about the attraction they are viewing. While this may seem like an exciting advancement, reading in a moving vehicle can still be disconcerting for some.
However, this technology has immense potential beyond just vehicles with windows. It could also be applied to other modes of transportation such as planes, trains, and cruise ships. To fully realize its potential, databases of attractions and their details need to be built for each landmark. Passengers will then have the freedom to explore their surroundings on their own from the comfort of their seats without needing human guides. Alternatively, they can simply stay home and browse pictures of these attractions online instead.
As an experienced writer with over 17 years under my belt and a passion for all things tech-related since childhood, I am excited to witness this technological breakthrough firsthand at CES 2024. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or someone who prefers staying put, this innovative display promises to enhance your experience in more ways than one!
