Discover Agriculture and Food Science: 3rd Annual AFSE Day on July 10

Youth in grades 6-9 can join the third annual Agriculture and Food Science Exploration (AFSE) Day on Wednesday, July 10. This event, hosted by Mower County 4-H, Riverland Community College, Nexus Cooperative, and Austin Community Education, is perfect for anyone interested in science, biology, chemistry, engineering, computers, agriculture, mathematics, and food science.

During AFSE Day, participants will have the chance to learn about agronomy, animal science, and food science through engaging tours, hands-on learning labs, and leadership skill development. Some of the tours and activities included are a corn/soybean/drone activity by Nexus Cooperative, a dairy farm tour to learn about dairy farming practices in Minnesota farms. They will also visit an ethanol plant to learn about biofuels production. A food science activity by Hormel Foods will be held at the end of the day where they’ll get hands-on experience in food processing and packaging techniques. Each location will feature hands-on activities designed to help participants apply their knowledge and learn about leadership from State 4-H Ambassadors.
