On Labor Day, thousands of people will take to the streets of Paris and throughout France in a large-scale mobilization. The inter-union has called for this demonstration every year, and this year’s context is influenced by ongoing conflicts in places like Ukraine and Palestine.
The demonstration in Paris will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Place de la République, with an estimated departure time of 2 p.m. The route will take demonstrators towards Place de la Nation via Boulevard Voltaire, following the same path as last year. A traffic system will be put in place around the demonstration, so motorists are advised to avoid the area from 10 a.m.
According to a police source, between 15,000 and 30,000 people are expected to participate in Paris, including some radical demonstrators. Last year, there were 5,000 security personnel overseeing 100,000 protesters, resulting in clashes and injuries. The police have not yet disclosed the security measures put in place for this year’s event.
Alongside the May Day demonstration, various messages are being shared on social media platforms calling for unity and peace. This year’s International Workers’ Day is being framed as a day for just and lasting peace, emphasizing the importance of fair wages and solidarity among trade unions and youth organizations.
