Delta College’s Eyes of Science Facility: Empowering Students with High-Paying Careers in Nanotechnology and Microscopy.

Delta College recently held a free open house for the Eyes of Science facility, showcasing its unique training program for high-paying careers. Located in Stockton, the facility offers an electron microscopy program that is the only one of its kind at a community college level. Jose Jimenez, an instructor at Delta College, explains that the program allows students to explore the cell structure of atoms and delve into the world of nanotechnology.

Hitachi provided training and mentorship to Jimenez on powerful microscopes known as the Eyes of Science, which are crucial for critical research in various scientific fields. Students like Logan Gorham found their passion for microscopy through this program, despite originally studying art. With 20 students currently enrolled in the program, many of them local, there is a clear demand for skilled individuals in this field.

Cassidy Altimari highlights the diverse range of job opportunities that the program provides, with numerous positions available in biological, pharmaceutical, and material science fields. Many students have already secured jobs before graduation, such as Nathaniel Sibayan who landed a job at Tesla and Alyssa Origer who will be working on electric batteries at QuantumScape in San Jose.

The success of the program has led to plans to expand it further on campus. Rachaellien Trinh, director of the program, shares that they aim to increase enrollment and provide even more opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in nanotechnology and microscopy. School leaders note that those who complete this program see a significant increase in their earnings potential, with an average salary increase of 168%. The enthusiasm of students combined with promising job prospects make continued growth and development necessary for this highly successful program at Delta College in Stockton.
