Dave Portnoy’s $200,000 Bet on the Philadelphia Phillies: A New Streak Begins

1 min read

Dave Portnoy’s hot streak in sports betting may have come to an end, but that didn’t stop the Barstool founder from placing a $200,000 bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the 2024 World Series for a potential profit of $1.2 million. This came after losing $70,000 on a bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.

Portnoy took to Twitter after the Oilers’ loss, acknowledging the end of his streak and expressing his appreciation for their efforts. He also mentioned being glad that his friend @elio82 won, and emphasized that all good things must come to an end, but now it’s time to start a new streak.

The Phillies bet is just one of many successful wagers Portnoy has made this year. In early June, he predicted championship wins for the Celtics and Oilers before either series began, claiming to have won approximately $7 million on various bets including wins on Michigan, the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, UConn in the national championship, Scottie Scheffler at the Masters and Celtics in NBA.

Despite jinxing himself with his prediction earlier in June, Portnoy is determined to start a new streak and continue his success in sports betting.
