Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new record by appearing in his sixth European Championship, the most of any player. At 39 years old, he started in his team’s Group F opener against Czech Republic in Germany. His international teammate Pepe, aged 41, also started the match and became the oldest player in Euros history at 113 appearances.
Before the 2024 tournament, Ronaldo already held the record for most European Championship goals (14) and appearances (25). He has now become the first player to play in six separate Euros, dating back to 2004. Ruben Dias, another international teammate, praised Ronaldo’s continued contribution to the team, highlighting his ability to inspire and achieve great things.
Ronaldo is determined to continue his scoring streak in this tournament and break the record for the oldest goalscorer in European Championship history. He also aims to lead his team to a second victory like former Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas did when he captained Spain to the title in 2008 and 2012. Ronaldo was Portugal’s captain when they won in 2016.
