Combatting Stigma and Improving Mental Health Access in Texas: A Momentous Institute Panel and Toolkit Launch

2 min read

The Momentous Institute is hosting a free panel and launching a tool kit to help families navigate the mental health crisis on Tuesday. Dr. Jessica Gomez, Executive Director of the organization, emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health issues to combat stigma and improve access to services and educational opportunities. She highlights the need for more attention to mental health in Texas, which currently ranks last in all states for access to care and prevalence rates of mental illness.

On April 30th at 5:30 pm, the organization is hosting a free event on the root causes of the mental health crisis at Collin College Frisco Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about mental health and potentially win tickets to the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Players and caddies at the tournament will be wearing green ribbons for mental health awareness, with information on how they maintain their mental health displayed on their bibs instead of their names.

Dr. Gomez encourages individuals to take advantage of these resources and engage in conversations about mental health to help raise awareness and support those in need. By coming together as a community, we can work towards improving mental health services and breaking down barriers to care for all individuals.

The Momentous Institute’s tool kit aims to provide families with practical strategies for promoting mental wellness and reducing stigma around mental illness. Dr. Gomez emphasizes that open conversations about mental health are crucial for creating a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking help when needed.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is just one example of how sports can play a role in raising awareness about mental health issues. The tournament features players wearing green ribbons for awareness and displaying information on their bibs about maintaining their own mental wellness.

Dr. Gomez encourages everyone who is interested in learning more about promoting mental wellness or seeking support for themselves or loved ones to attend this free event at Collin College Frisco Campus on April 30th at 5:30 pm.

By working together as a community, we can create a more supportive environment for individuals struggling with mental illness and break down barriers to care that prevent them from receiving the help they need.
