Chicago Chiropractor Convicted of Health Care Fraud: Dr. Clarence Brown III’s Two-Week Trial Leads to All Nine Counts of Health Care Fraud

Dr. Clarence Brown III, a Chicago-based chiropractor, was convicted of fraudulent federal health care charges following a two-week trial. The owner of Dr. CB3 Wellness, Inc., and Apex Integrated Medical Center, Ltd., Brown was found guilty on all nine counts of health care fraud on April 12. Each count is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Between 2016 and 2020, Brown submitted false claims to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for health care services that were never provided to patients. Some of the claims were for services supposedly rendered when Brown was out of state. To support his claims, Brown created fake medical documents and billed BCBS $1.3 million for services that were not actually provided to two families.

Prosecutors allege that Brown received $750,000 from BCBS for the false claims. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23, 2024.
