Healthvana, a patient interface company, has developed a conversational AI chatbot that provides quick answers to patients dealing with sexually transmitted infections. The chatbot offers two options: a standard AI persona or a drag queen persona. To everyone’s surprise, the drag queen persona has been more engaging, with 80% of patients choosing this option and enjoying the comments provided by the chatbot.
During a panel at the Milken Institute 2024 Global Conference, Healthvana CEO Ramin Bastani and other health care leaders discussed the increasing use of AI in science and health care. While they acknowledged the importance of considering the limits of AI to avoid harming patients, they also emphasized the need to shift the mindset from questioning the role of AI to exploring the possibilities it offers.
MD Anderson Cancer Center Chief Data Officer Caroline Chung highlighted this shift in mindset as essential for leveraging the potential of AI in healthcare. As AI continues to play a more significant role in healthcare, the conversation around its impact and potential must focus on maximizing its benefits while addressing any limitations or risks.
