Alise Willoughby claimed her third BMX racing world championship title on Saturday in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The 33-year-old took the lead from the start and finished first, with Zoe Claessens of Switzerland in second and Daleny Vaughn from the United States in third place.
Willoughby, who first won a world championship title in Rock Hill seven years ago, is aiming to improve upon her silver medal from the Rio Olympics at this year’s Games after two crashes in Tokyo dashed her podium dreams. She will be joined by Vaughn on the US team, with the final athletes for the team set to be announced later this month.
After her victory, Willoughby shared her thoughts, saying, “It is such an honor to deliver on the day. When you dream of it, when you hope for it, but doing it is a whole other thing. This feeling is so special.” She expressed gratitude for her family, friends, fans, husband, and coaches who have supported her through this journey.
In the men’s competition, French rider Joris Daudet clinched his third world title
